Endodontic treatment
The term endodontic treatment shall be understood as root canal treatment.
The advanced stage of tooth decay is often complicated by neuritis – inflammation of a tooth's nerve inside the root canal system. Neuritis causes pain. If untreated, neuritis can be transferred further in the bone above the tooth, swelling occurs and it is necessary to pull out the tooth in many cases.
If the tooth decay is treated correctly, it is possible to preserve the tooth even without any pain.
How does the treatment work?
The endodontic treatment consists of 3 steps:
- removing the nerve (painless using local anaesthetics)
- expanding the root canal in order to remove the infectious content
- filling the root canal
