Gallbladder surgery
The surgical removal of the gallbladder (cholecystectomy) is necessary in patients suffering from gallstones. Gallstones form due to the flocculation of too thick gall in the gallbladder. They may cause a very painful biliary colic, where small stones are particularly dangerous. A subsequent inflammation of the gallbladder is accompanied by severe pain and fever. If the gallstones pass from the gallbladder further to the biliary tract, they can cause jaundice by blocking the biliary duct, and a very serious inflammation of the pancreas. Before the operation, a gastroenterological examination, ultrasound examination of the abdomen and a blood test are necessary. It is performed under general anaesthesia, with a short-term hospitalization.
