Hernia surgery
Hernia is the protrusion of peritoneum creating a pouch which may contain abdominal cavity organs. It develops due to increasing pressure in the abdomen – because of strain, frequent difficult passing of stool, urinating, coughing, other diseases, particularly when the abdominal wall is weakened.
Hernia usually develops in a weak spot of the abdominal wall, which might be the inguinal canal, navel, scar after previous surgery or other more rare locations.
It is a very common disease, which can only be treated surgically. It manifests by soreness, and patients can often find hernia by touching the affected spot. Each hernia should be operated, if patient's health allows for anaesthesia, because there is always a risk of its incarceration (strangulation) with life-threatening peritoneal inflammation, which usually manifests by great pain or vomiting.
In surgical treatment of hernia, classical operational technique is used, as well as an operational solution supporting weakened and infirm tissues with artificial, resorbable nets.
