Surgical treatment of appendicitis
Appendix is typically located in the right lower abdomen. It is virtually of no significance for intestinal digestive activity, but its acute inflammation might even be life-threatening. Sudden abdominal pain that will wake you in the middle of the night is typical. You feel uneasy, nauseous, torpid, have increased temperature and accelerated pulse. The abdominal pain gradually shifts from the navel to the lower right abdomen. The abdomen is sensitive to touch.
Surgical treatment of acute or chronic appendicitis is performed in a usual way, consisting in its surgical removal. The procedure is always performed after a thorough pre-operative examination.
The operation is performed under general anaesthesia and leaves a small scar in the right low abdomen. You will usually feel a quick relief after the operation. Gradually, you can start eating more substantial meals. If there are no complications, you stay in the hospital for four or five days.
