Diabetology
Diabetology deals with the diagnostics and treatment of pathologically increased level of blood sugar. This disease is called diabetes mellitus.
Diabetes is conditional on the body's failure to produce insulin in pancreas and lower sensitivity of tissues to this hormone. Main types of diabetes include type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus, with the type 2 diabetes being the most common. It occurs in middle and older age and is classified as a disease of civilization.
Diabetes is accompanied with fatigue, weight loss, dehydration, frequent infections and increased level of sugar in blood and urine. In initial stages, the disease might go on with no symptoms, as so-called impaired glucose tolerance. Untreated diabetes leads to a number of complications – metabolic disruption or even unconsciousness, acceleration of the atherosclerosis process and onset of high blood pressure.
