Breast reduction an operation designed to reduce excessively large breasts; the medical term for the procedure is reduction mammoplasty. The operation is performed under general anaesthesia. It involves an anchor-shaped incision which circles the areola. The incision extends downward, following the natural curve of the breast. Excess glandular tissue, fat, and skin are removed. Next, the nipple and areola are moved into their new higher position, wrapped with the remaining skin and modelled into a conical shape. The scar has the shape of an inverted T ? circle around the pigmented nipple area (the areola) going down straight to the breast crease into both directions across. The scar lines might differ when using different surgical techniques. A supportive garment should be worn long-term in the post-operative period. Breast reduction does not only have a cosmetic effect - we also reshape breasts which reduces physical discomfort.
