Breast enlargement
Most women wish they had larger, full and identically shaped breasts, but not every woman was so endowed by Mother Nature. In addition, the aesthetical appearance of breasts is gradually influenced by the loss of skin elasticity, breastfeeding and weight reduction.
Breast enlargement or augmentation means the enlargement of breasts with implants.
Why breast surgery?
Augmentation is the enlargement of breasts achieved by using special implants. It is performed with very good aesthetic results in patients with insufficiently developed breasts or where the gland decrease caused a slightly sagging breast shape.
How does the operation work?
During the first consultation before breast enlargement, your doctor will familiarize you in detail with the operation and choose the most suitable operation technique. At the same time, he will openly discuss your expectations with you and describe possible risks and limitations.
Since the operation is performed under general anaesthesia, preoperative examination by a general physician or internist is necessary, including a laboratory exam and EKG. It should also contain a detailed anamnesis, i.e. diseases in your family, diseases you had suffered from or are currently in treatment with, allergies, etc. In some facilities, this examination can be done in the morning on the day of the surgery.
Before the breast surgery, it is also necessary to exclude any breast disease through ultrasound (sonographic) or mammographic examination, depending on patient's age.
The method of your implant insertion and placement will depend on your anatomical dispositions and surgeon's recommendation. The insertion is performed through an incision led either in the crease below the breasts, dark skin around the nipple or in armpits. Subsequently, a poach is created, in which the implant is inserted.
The breast surgery is performed under general anaesthesia and takes one to two hours.
What happens after the surgery?
You will probably feel pain for a few days following the surgery. The pain is stronger after operations where the implant is inserted under the muscle. You will take pain-killers (analgesics) for two to five days after the plastic surgery. The pain gradually subsides.
You will probably be released from the clinic in one or two days. Before release, your bandages may be replaced and drains removed, depending on the facility and surgeon. Stitches are removed within a check-up in seven to ten days, depending on the facility's routine.
It is recommended to wear an elastic bra. You will usually obtain it at the facility where the breast surgery is performed. Your surgeon will determine how long you should wear it; it is usually worn for four to eight weeks.
You can carry out normal daily activities and do light housework in 10 – 14 days.
Routine check-ups are after one month, three months and one year. A check-up including ultrasound is conducted after 10 years, and the ultrasound examination is then repeated every five years.
