Predicative genetics

Genetics is a scientific study that deals with gene research. Announcement of decoding the human genome has been the most important event in this research field until today. This has enabled to learn about those parts of the human body which the mankind was not aware of until that moment. If we understand the genome better, it can help us to identify the origins of diseases that are most often caused by malfunction of a protein due to mutant forms of the individual genes more easily.

Logically, a completely new scientific discipline – predictive genetics - was developed as a result. The task of this enormously dynamic branch focusing on all existing knowledge in genetics is to reveal individual genetic predispositions to serious diseases in time. Thanks to this, we are able – with respect to the examination of the family history and analysis of the external aspects of the environment we live in – to reduce risks of diseases and thus prevent their occurrence efficiently. There is just one cause of the disease only very rarely. Thanks to the predicative genetics, prevention of diseases such as cancer or Alzheimer's disease is, however, at a very high level. In addition, knowledge of genetic causes of diseases can significantly speed up diagnosing and treating the disease of those patients who have been already suffering from it. For instance, if we can understand the way genes affect the effects of medicine and their side effects, it will enable us to develop a precious plan of personalized medicine.

Predictive genetics influences other branches of medicine, too. Certain genetic preconditions can increase a predisposition to the development of hereditary diseases and diseases of civilisation.

Based on the knowledge of the origins and the development of the disease, predicative genetic testing enables to take preventive measures or it can provide a particular recommendation for avoiding the risk factors. Our genes contain unique information, which requires proposal for individual treatment or preventive strategy. This approach makes the treatment defined effective and safe. Predicative genetics also enables to understand the ageing process and, thus, improve the quality of life of elderly people.

Genetic diagnosis

Analysis of genes for the purposes of identifying specific genetic features of a person is called genetic diagnosis. For the purposes of this test, only a very small amount of biological material (e.g. saliva on the buccal membrane) is needed. The results can identify hereditary diseases before they occur. If we manage to evaluate the way external factors affect specific genetic features, the genetic analysis can help us to clarify which particular factors influence the increase of the risk of disease occurrence.

Genetic diagnosis evaluates our individual preconditions for development of certain diseases during our lives and subsequently it helps to prepare a strategy for disease prevention and define individualized treatment.

Very specific technical requirements and high costs were the problem for making genetic diagnosis until recently. However, there were big advances in research and development during last months, which enabled to bring this unique comprehensive output of the predicative genetics closer to the widest population.

At the same time, it is possible to undergo an examination of genetic risks of many diseases at our partner facility, GHC GENETICS, for instance along with the examination of all organ groups (Complex screening).

Based on the clinical results and the analysis of the genetic predisposition, GenScan, a precious diagnosis is made and preventive treatment or treatment of the already developed diseases is initiated. A definite precondition for the healthy and happy life for those who have decided to be responsible for their health is created through this comprehensive medical and personalized approach to each client.
