What is a brow lift
Brow lift is a surgical procedure intended to raise droopy eyebrows.
Who is a good candidate for the procedure
Eyebrow surgery is one of the surgeries performed on clients who experience sagging skin, wrinkle formation and droopy eyebrows as they age. It is suitable for all men and women mostly at the age of 40 to 60 who want to restore the youthful appearance of their face. Of course, it can also be performed on younger clients, if a major sagging of the skin in the area of the forehead and the eyebrows occurs earlier than usual, as well as on older clients if they meet certain health conditions to be able to undergo the surgery. The brow lift is not only indicated for cosmetic purposes but it is also used to address facial asymmetry accompanying some conditions, such as facial nerve paralysis. You may want to opt for this procedure if a correction is not possible in the field of aesthetic medicine and dermatology by e.g. lifting threads.
Before the procedure
If you consider a brow lift, it is always necessary to undergo a non-binding initial consultation with a plastic surgeon, who will assess whether the procedure is right for you, explain the technique of the surgery, the type of anaesthesia, as well as the possible risks associated with the surgery. During the consultation you can ask any questions, in particular those related to the course of the surgery, as well as your expectations and concerns about the brow lift results.
When making a binding appointment, you will be given and explained instructions on how to prepare for the procedure, as well as information regarding eating, drinking, smoking and taking or withdrawing from certain medications. Compliance with all these instructions is necessary and will facilitate a smooth procedure and seamless healing after the forehead and eyebrow lift.
How is a brow lift performed
The brow lift is performed under local anaesthesia with intravenous sedation or under general anaesthesia. During the brow lift, the sagging skin is detached from the muscle and droopy eyebrows are elevated by redraping the skin.
This procedure can be performed as an open or endoscopic surgery. Endoscopic forehead surgery is much less invasive and it is performed by means of special instruments and optics that allow to operate through small incisions of around 1 cm. Minimum insertion sites used in endoscopy with no damage to the hair follicles and a conservation of almost the entire vascularisation eliminate the risk of hair loss while short scars are placed in the scalp.
After the procedure
After the brow lift, you may temporarily experience bruises, swelling, numbness, itching, headaches and increased hair loss. Permanent scarring or change in the hairline can occur. If an endoscopic technique is used, the scar is hidden in the hair and no hair loss occurs. A semi-seated position preferably on the back and cold compresses on the treated sites over the bandage are recommended. Perform light pressure massage of the scars starting from the 12th day after the surgery. Apply a moisturizing lotion to the skin of the surgery area. It is imperative to avoid chemical hair dyeing for several weeks and face tanning for several months after the surgery. Based on the check-up, the stitches will be removed 5 – 10 days after the surgery. After the surgery, a return to normal activity is usually possible within 2 – 3 weeks.
