Mesotherapy

Dermatology

What is a mesotherapy

Mesotherapy is a very popular and effective rejuvenation method based on direct injection of hyaluronic acid that strongly binds water in the skin. According to the nature of the applied substance and on the purpose, the depth of the injection may vary – it can be intraepidermal (very gentle – gentle tapping with the needle tip) or intradermal (when the medication is administered through the skin surface). Mesotherapy is most often used on the skin in the face, neck and décolleté. The skin is thus revitalized and hydrated, resulting in greater elasticity, firmness and noticeable smoothing of its surface.

Who is a good candidate for the treatment

Mesotherapy provides long-term skin hydration which is particularly suitable for very dry, mature or over-dried skin due to climatic conditions and when staying in air-conditioned environment for extended periods of time.

Before the Procedure

If you consider mesotherapy, it is always necessary to undergo an initial consultation with a physician, unless you are a regular client of the GHC Dermatology Department. The dermatologist will examine you, evaluate the indication for the filler application and the skin condition, hear your expectations, recommend the most suitable course of action and suggest treatment alternatives, if available.

How is the mesotherapy performed

Mesotherapy is performed in a doctor's office; in case of intraepidermal application, no numbing cream is applied and, in case of intradermal application (through the skin surface), the site is desensitized locally by means of an numbing cream or gel before the procedure. The application itself is always performed by injection. A mesotherapeutic needle is used; it is very fine, therefore, the treatment is minimally painful.

After the procedure

With mesotherapy, it is recommended not to use cosmetic products on the treated site for 24 hours preferably. During the healing process, small scabs, bumps or bruises may form which disappear in about 7 – 14 days. Preferably, a treatment in a beauty parlour is possible after 14 days only. When staying in the sun, it is appropriate to protect the treated site by a sunscreen with SPF 50. After the treatment, it is recommended not to exercise for at least 12 hours and not to go to the sauna for at least a week. Swimming in the pool is possible on the next day after the procedure.

The number of sessions and their appropriate frequency varies from one client to another. The second treatment is usually performed after a month and a third after another month. To maintain the effect, it is appropriate to undergo the treatment e.g. twice a year. Many clients undergo mesotherapy e.g. twice a year after they took it up, depending on their initial condition.
