Plasma therapy (PRP) - new ACP method

Dermatology

What is plasma therapy (PRP)

The purpose of the plasma therapy is the regeneration of the treated area. Plasma is part of the blood and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is plasma rich in platelets. Hence, the method is very natural. The platelets contain cell growth factors which, after injection into the target site, are capable of stimulating stem cells of the tissue and thereby inducing tissue regeneration of the site. Thus, when applied to the skin, they induce skin rejuvenation and when applied to the scalp, they improve hair growth. PRP can be used alone or in combination with hyaluronic acid.

According to the purpose, the application may be intraepidermal (very gentle – by gently tapping the skin with the needle tip, tiny surface wounds are created, through which the plasma is absorbed into the skin – this application is performed in particular in the treatment of hair loss) or intradermal (when an injection passes through the skin surface – an application for skin rejuvenation).

The GHC Clinic Prague offers a new method of ACP (Autologous Conditioned Plasma) plasma therapy which contains a higher concentration of platelets and is thus able to produce better results.

This revolutionary method no longer involves any other substances or foreign materials (anticoagulants, separation gels and activators that, with the previous PRP methods, could cause an unpleasant burning sensation) and is thus perfectly natural for our body.

Who is a good candidate for the treatment

The method can be used for skin rejuvenation, improvement of hair growth and wound healing, e.g. in the treatment of the “diabetic leg”.

Before the Procedure

If you consider plasma therapy, it is always necessary to undergo an initial consultation with a physician, unless you are a regular client of the GHC Dermatology Department. The dermatologist will examine you, evaluate the indication for the filler application and the skin condition, hear your expectations, recommend the most suitable course of action and suggest treatment alternatives, if available.

  • For 24 hours prior to the collection, follow these drinking instructions: drink 2–3 litres of non-alcoholic fluids (preferably, the last half a litre 2 hrs prior to the procedure), restrict caffeinated beverages and green and herbal infusions
  • For 24 hours prior to the procedure, avoid fatty food, milk drinks, food with vitamin K
  • Before the treatment (2–3 days), stop taking anti-inflammatory drugs – NSAIDs (Ibalgin, Voltaren, Aulin, etc.),
  • One week before the treatment (after consultation with your GP), stop taking non-steroidal antiphlogistic drugs, such as acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) 500 mg
  • Plasma treatment should rather not be performed during menstruation or detox

How is the plasma therapy performed

The procedure is performed in a dermatology surgery office, often with an application of a numbing cream (depending on the location and the method of application – for intraepidermal application, no anaesthetic cream is applied; for intradermal application, the site is usually desensitized locally by means of an anaesthetic cream or gel before the procedure). First, a blood draw is performed (typically, one test tube of 15 ml of blood or more test tubes if a greater number of sites is to be treated or in case of a special treatment - e.g. treatment of wounds). This blood is then briefly processed in a centrifuge. The PRP application itself is performed by injection. A mesotherapeutic needle is used; it is very fine, therefore, the treatment is minimally painful.

After the procedure

After the plasma therapy, it is recommended not to use cosmetic products on the treated site preferably for 24 hours. Preferably, a treatment in a beauty parlour is possible after 14 days only. When staying in the sun, it is appropriate to protect the treated site by a sunscreen with SPF 50. After the procedure, it is recommended not to exercise for at least 24 hours and not to go to the sauna for at least a week. Avoid of excessive sweating (sports, sauna), UV radiation (direct sunlight) for 3 days. Relax ideally 2 - 3 days.

In case of an application on the scalp to improve hair growth, we recommend not to wash the hair for two to three days after the procedure preferably.

The improvement should be assessed one month after the procedure at the earliest but preferably after 3 months.
