What is circumcision
Circumcision is a minor surgical procedure used to remove the foreskin from the penis - the fold of skin that covers the glans penis (head of the penis). The glans penis remains fully exposed after the procedure.
Who should undergo the surgery
This procedure is performed not only for aesthetic and functional reasons but also as a measure to prevent penis cancer that may develop due to insufficient hygiene when the foreskin is difficult or impossible to retract. Approximately one fourth of men are circumcised globally. However, this percentage varies in different countries or parts of the world.
Before the procedure
The physician will explain to you the procedure and anesthesia and inform you about any risks related to the surgery during the initial examination. You may ask any questions, in particular, questions related to the procedure, your expectations and concerns, during the discussion.
When making a binding appointment, you will be provided with an information sheet on how to prepare for the surgery, including information on eating, drinking, smoking and taking or discontinuing some medicines, which will be explained to you. Complying with all the recommendations is necessary for the surgery to run smoothly and for event-free healing after circumcision.
How is the procedure performed
The procedure is most commonly performed in local anesthesia in an out-patient setting. It involves the removal or the outer and the inner part of the foreskin and their suture.
After the surgery
It is recommended to observe a resting regime the first day after circumcision. After dressing removal, it is good to bathe the penis in chamomile solution and avoid any sexual activity until the wound is healed. The duration of an unpleasant feeling caused by increased rubbing on underwear is individual.I am interested in
