What is penile hydrocelectomy
A hydrocele is a condition when fluid collects in the sheath surrounding the testicle. It is a so-called ”fluid hernia”. Plastic surgery denotes its surgical removal.
Who is a good candidate for the procedure
Hydrocele develops in both younger and older men. The aetiology is postoperative, post-traumatic, post-infectious or other.
Before the procedure
During the pre-operative assessment, the physician will explain the surgery technique and the type of anaesthesia; you will also be informed about the possible risks associated with the surgery. At the same time, an ultrasound of the scrotum must be performed as part of the assessment. During the consultation, you can ask any questions, in particular those related to the course of the surgery, as well as your expectations and concerns.
When making a binding appointment, you will be given and explained instructions on how to prepare for the procedure, as well as information regarding eating, drinking, smoking and taking or withdrawing from certain medication. Compliance with all these instructions is necessary and will facilitate a smooth procedure and seamless healing after the hydrocelectomy.
How is hydrocelectomy performed
The procedure is usually conducted under general anaesthesia. It consists in draining the fluid, as well as in a plastic surgery of the sheath of the testicle and of the spermatic cord.
After the procedure
After surgery, pain in the wound is possible. Major activity, as well as impact in the scrotum area should be avoided for about 14 days.
